This season poses a significant challenge for Manchester City, as their stronghold on the Premier League appears to be faltering.
Following a tough 2-0 loss to Liverpool, the team finds itself 11 points behind the league leaders, leading Jamie Carragher to warn that they might struggle to finish within the top four.
Under Pep Guardiola’s leadership, City has clinched six titles over the past seven years, including four consecutive championships. However, the current season presents a stark contrast.
The club is experiencing its worst performance since Guardiola took charge, suffering six losses in their last seven outings.
Carragher, during his comments on Sky Sports, did not hold back in his critique.
“This season, Manchester City will not reclaim the Premier League,” he stated. “There seems to be no way back for them. This situation resembles Liverpool’s struggles from two years ago.”
“I genuinely think Manchester City could have a tough battle to secure a top-four position.”
Carragher’s Recommendations for Guardiola
According to Carragher, it’s crucial for City to bolster their squad in January to improve their chances of reviving their season.
“He must make new signings,” Carragher emphasized.
“Failing to act swiftly might see teams like Arsenal and Chelsea, who possess youthful vigor, surpass them in the standings.”
Compounding City’s difficulties is the ongoing Financial Fair Play investigation.
The team is facing 115 charges that could lead to severe consequences, including point deductions, transfer freezes, or even relegation.
