President Bola Tinubu
The Presidency has responded to threats directed at President Bola Tinubu regarding the upcoming 2027 election.
Abiodun Essiet, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North Central), emphasized that Tinubu has good intentions for Nigeria, with policies focused on improving the nation’s economy.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Essiet addressed concerns relating to the Tax Reform Bill, which some critics claim could jeopardize the President’s chances in the next election if enacted.
She advised that “politics is not a job,” mentioning that if the President had ill intentions, he wouldn’t be advocating for significant reforms during his first term.
“Please refrain from using the media to threaten the President regarding 2027. You can have countless discussions about it, but politics should not be a full-time endeavor.
“The President’s actions are for the benefit of the country; no leader would undertake such extensive reforms during their initial term (like LGA autonomy, financial and tax reforms). Most leaders wait until their second term for such initiatives. It’s not about 2027, but about leading Nigeria towards progress. Let’s refrain from turning every reform into a political issue and leave politics aside until 2026.
“We are addressing multi-taxation issues through these tax reforms. Focus on your work and set politics aside for now,” she stated.
Essiet also urged Nigerians to educate themselves on the Tax Reform Bill rather than relying on social media personalities or other platforms for information, suggesting that those influencers may have ulterior motives.
“Take time to read the tax reform bills directly, rather than depending on influencers who are often paid to sway public opinion. Don’t be easily misled. Let’s engage in thoughtful discussions,” Essiet concluded.
