Ambitious Goals for Ho Chi Minh City in 2025
Ho Chi Minh City is striving to achieve notable growth by 2025, targeting a GDP increase of over 10% and aiming for an average per capita income of $8,500. The plan includes a significant expansion of the digital economy, expected to contribute 25% to local GDP, highlighting the city’s commitment to modernization and innovation.
In the recent 12th session of the HCMC People’s Council held on December 9, Vice Chairman Duong Ngoc Hai shared the city’s economic highlights from 2024.
Despite facing challenges, Ho Chi Minh City recorded a growth rate of 7.17%, nearing the 7.5% goal, along with budget revenues exceeding 502 trillion VND. The industrial, tourism, and retail sectors exhibited strong performances.
However, Hai pointed out obstacles including slow public investment spending and persistent administrative hurdles that have stalled further advancement.
As the city builds on the successes of 2024, it has set its sights on ambitious objectives for 2025: over 10% GDP growth, public investment disbursement exceeding 95%, and a 25% contribution from the digital economy to the GDP.
The focus for 2025 will include revamping government structures for efficiency, boosting digital transformation, implementing National Assembly Resolution 98, and tackling long-standing challenges.
Nguyen Thi Le, Chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Council, stressed the necessity of evaluating 2024’s results and defining strategic priorities for the coming year. Important discussions included budget allocations, public investment strategies, and tackling administrative inefficiencies.
Le called for a holistic approach to enhance productivity in key sectors, prioritize urgent infrastructure projects, and promote green and digital transitions. She also highlighted the critical need to fight corruption and waste, ensuring efficient governance and public confidence.
Recognizing significant challenges ahead, including global economic volatility and domestic structural concerns, Le urged council members to carefully analyze reports to identify factors influencing city development and suggest practical solutions.
The leaders of Ho Chi Minh City aspire to achieve breakthroughs in socio-economic growth, security, and public welfare. Their efforts aim to contribute to national progress while commemorating key events, notably the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s reunification.
HCMC’s agenda for 2025 reflects its determination to propel Vietnam into a new phase of growth and prosperity, aligning local ambitions with the nation’s broader objective of becoming a high-income country.
