Nigerian Stars Recognized in CAF Awards
Nigerian footballers Ademola Lookman and Chiamaka Nnadozie have been included in the final shortlist for the CAF Player of the Year awards, representing the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
This announcement was made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) yesterday.
In addition, Nigeria’s national teams, the Super Eagles and Super Falcons, also made it to the final shortlist for the Team of the Year award.
Lookman, who plays for Atalanta in Italy’s Serie A, gained attention last season after scoring a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final, contributing significantly to his team’s victory. He played a crucial role in the Super Eagles’ effort during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they narrowly lost to Cote d’Ivoire in the final.
His exceptional performance earned him a spot in the Team of the Tournament at AFCON, competing against notable players like South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, Cote d’Ivoire’s Simon Adingra, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy.
