Ice Prince, the Nigerian artist who clinched the Best International Act, Africa Award in 2013, recently revealed that it was he who broke the barrier for African artists at the BET Awards, not Davido, as many fans believe.

The well-known Nigerian musician, Ice Prince, has clarified that he was indeed the first African artist to receive a BET Award live on stage during the event.

Previously, African artists typically accepted their awards in a backstage ceremony, rather than on stage.

In an appearance on ‘Listening’, Ice Prince emphasized his role in changing this tradition, asserting that he, rather than Davido, deserves the credit.

“I am the first African artiste to go on a BET stage and receive an award solo… When you guys talk about it, you guys give that credit to Davido,” he stated.

Davido caught the audience’s attention during his 2018 BET Awards acceptance speech, where he advocated for increased collaborations between American and African artists.
