The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared an extension for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) initiative.

This decision was made during their routine weekly meeting held on Thursday.

The session focused on the ongoing preparations for the upcoming off-cycle gubernatorial election in Anambra State, along with updates regarding registration applications from new political parties.

The Commission expressed satisfaction with the registration turnout in Anambra State and noted the smooth execution of the CVR across all 326 registration locations within the State.

According to the latest figures as of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, a total of 96,085 new voters have registered within just nine days.

On a daily basis, the Commission reported registering over 10,600 voters and noted that 12,595 individuals sought to transfer their registrations either within or outside the State. Additionally, 7,061 people requested updates to their records or replacement of their damaged or lost Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The CVR in Anambra was initially set to conclude on Thursday. However, following requests from citizens, the Commission has decided to extend the registration period by three days.

“The new deadline is now Sunday, July 20, 2025,” stated Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information & Voter Education Committee.

“Following this, the Commission will present the register for public claims and objections, as required by law, which will be succeeded by a data cleanup utilizing the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).

“Subsequently, a detailed analysis of the new registrants categorized by age, gender, occupation, and disability will be made available to the public.

“At this preliminary phase, 56,017 (58%) of the new registrants are female, while 50,429 (52.48%) fall within the youth demographic aged between 18 and 34.”
