Marc Agnifilo, the lawyer representing Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, will contribute his legal expertise to Luigi Mangione, who is charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO on December 4.
Brian Thompson was fatally shot in Manhattan by a masked gunman who ambushed him outside the New York Hilton Midtown, taking his life within moments.
The gunman fled into Central Park, with the NYPD suspecting he might have escaped the city. However, Mangione was apprehended in Pennsylvania a few days later.
When captured, authorities reported finding a 3D-printed gun and suppressor in his possession, along with a handwritten manifesto expressing his discontent with the U.S. healthcare system.
As he arrives in New York to face his charges, including federal murder and stalking, Agnifilo‘s presence adds strength to his legal team. The 60-year-old has notably defended Combs against extensive federal charges related to trafficking, racketeering, and various allegations of violence totaling over 100 claims, as stated by Tony Buzbee.
Agnifilo has attempted on four occasions to secure Combs’ release on bond from the Southern District of New York, though only the last request was withdrawn just before his trial set for May 2025.
With the addition of legal heavyweight Karen Friedman, the former Chief Assistant District Attorney of Manhattan and Agnifilo’s spouse, Mangione is well-equipped to navigate the U.S. legal landscape.
Charges of Terrorism for Mangione
Mangione, who has not yet entered a plea, is facing charges in both New York and Pennsylvania related to the accusations against him. Recent images show him in a prison outfit with shackles on his ankles.
There is a chance he could face the death penalty; however, prosecutors have not yet disclosed whether they will pursue such a severe sentence. He also faces murder charges classified as acts of terrorism.
