Notable activist and politician Omoyele Sowore has publicly accused Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), of financing his son’s education abroad using money that rightfully belongs to the Nigerian people.
This statement came as Wike celebrated his son Jordan’s recent graduation from university in the UK.
Wike had posted on Tuesday about Jordan receiving a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from Queen Mary University of London.
The announcement has sparked a wave of reactions from Nigerians, who criticized politicians for undermining the country’s educational system while opting to send their own children overseas for education.
In response to Wike’s post, Sowore used his official X account to express his disapproval of the former governor of Rivers State.
Sowore highlighted that despite Wike’s long tenure in various public offices, he has not contributed to building a suitable school for his son in Nigeria.
Sowore commented, “Nyesom Wike has served as local government chairman for two terms, Minister of Education for four years, and Governor of Rivers State for two terms, which totals eight years.”
“Currently serving as the FCT Minister, he still chooses to send his children to study in the UK after contributing to the decline of education in Nigeria, funded by money taken from the people.”
