The recent Miss Universe 2024 pageant held at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico, where Victoria Kjaer from Denmark won, has faced allegations of being rigged by contestant Magali Benejam. Her claims about the fairness of the event resulted in her being stripped of her title as Miss Universe Argentina.
In a live interview on YouTube with influencer King Lucho, Benejam expressed skepticism about the outcomes of the pageant, suggesting it lacked authenticity. She noted that the judges seemed to share unusual glances upon the announcement of the Top 5 finalists.
Benejam recalled, “They exchanged looks that suggested, ‘This isn’t what we picked.’ My external perception led me to conclude that the results were predetermined. It has always been predetermined, year after year,” according to a report by Latin Times.
The contestant, who secured 12th place, pointed out that new titleholder Victoria Kjær had an unusual level of security, further fueling her belief that Kjær was aware of her impending victory.
Benejam continued her criticism by targeting Jennifer Colon, Puerto Rico’s contestant, for having the “worst” gown at the event and remarked on their declining interaction: “I spoke to her a few times, but she chose to ignore me in the last days for reasons unknown to me.”
Miss Universe Organization’s Response
The Miss Universe Organization took notice of Benejam’s remarks and announced the revocation of her Miss Universe Argentina title at the beginning of 2025.
“After thoroughly reviewing the public statements made by Miss Magali Benejam and in alignment with our core values, we have promptly removed her title,” read their statement.
The organization highlighted that this decision was made to preserve the credibility of the Miss Universe pageant and the opportunities it opens for women globally, stressing that all representatives must demonstrate “unwavering principles,” including respect.
“The decision was concluded after careful examination and aligns with our commitment to maintaining top standards in personal and professional behavior,” the organization affirmed.
