Governor Seyi Makinde has named Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo following thorough consultations and traditional rituals conducted by the Oyomesi, the traditional rulers of Oyo.

The appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo was announced by Oyo State’s Governor, Seyi Makinde, through a statement made on Friday.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, shared that Owoade’s appointment came after extensive dialogues and traditional divinations by the Oyomesi.

“The Oyomesi has recommended Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin, a choice approved by Governor Seyi Makinde after comprehensive consultations and divinations,” the statement noted.

Additionally, Ademola Ojo, who serves as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, pointed out that this decision addresses the issues that emerged after the death of the previous Alaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who passed away on April 22, 2022.

“This designation resolves the social and legal conflicts that followed Oba Adeyemi’s death. We urge the residents of Oyo State to rally behind the new Alaafin and partake in celebrating this pivotal moment,”
Ojo commented.

Oyelade conveyed optimism regarding Owoade’s rule, expressing hopes for advancements in peace, unity, and the growth of the Oyo Kingdom.

“We believe his leadership will promote development and harmony in the region and honor the esteemed legacy of the Alaafin throne,”
he remarked.

The citizens of Oyo State have been invited to back the new Alaafin as he assumes his responsibilities over the esteemed kingdom.
