Ten Victims of Human Trafficking Rescued in Jigawa by Immigration Officials

NIS Comptroller Mr. Tahir Musa announced during a press conference in Dutse on January 14, 2025, that ten victims were rescued in a recent operation.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) successfully rescued ten individuals from human trafficking in Jigawa State.

During a news conference on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, NIS Comptroller Mr. Tahir Musa revealed that the victims were intercepted on Sunday in the Tsamiyar Kwance area of Babura Local Government Area.

Musa detailed that the command’s Operation Salama team intercepted the individuals around 1:00 p.m. while they were traveling towards the Niger Republic, aiming for Europe.

The rescued victims, aged between 21 and 30, included two males and eight females.

He mentioned that the group consisted of six individuals from Ogun State, two from Ondo State, one from Oyo State, and another from Imo State.

“Upon their interception at Tsamiyar Kwance and following profiling and questioning, they revealed that they had been transported from various locations to Kano state before reaching Babura on their way to Niger Republic, heading towards Tripoli in Libya,” Musa noted.

The comptroller added that the victims were en route to Libya with the intent of crossing the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe.

Musa urged parents to be vigilant and protect their children from the allure of false promises of a better life abroad.

The NIS Comptroller-General, Mrs. Kemi Nandap, has emphasized the need to reduce irregular migration in the state through effective leadership and collaboration with the Jigawa government.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the rescued individuals have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further assistance.
