The Mysterious Exit of Anna Kournikova from the Spotlight

Why Anna Kournikova Disappeared From The Public Eye

Once known as the “Britney Spears of tennis,” Anna Kournikova caught everyone’s attention, particularly after being named FHM’s Sexiest Woman in 2002. However, her prominent presence faded after injuries led to her retirement at just 21. Today, Kournikova enjoys a more private life with Enrique Iglesias and their three children, seemingly indifferent to the fame she once commanded.

At a press conference after a match in 2010, Kournikova commented on the media’s role in her fame, noting, “Most of it was created by you guys, by the media… Never tried to pay attention.” Reflecting on the pressures she faced as a teenager, she admitted it was tough to deal with the negative narratives written about her at that young age.

The media often focused more on her appearance rather than her talent, which was particularly inappropriate for someone who was still a minor. Kournikova recalled her Wimbledon debut at just 16, mentioning how she was scrutinized for her looks. Despite the intense coverage, Kournikova chose to step away from the sport and the limelight in the early 2000s.

Injuries Cut Short Anna Kournikova’s Career

Kournikova’s passion for tennis was evident, and she wished to continue playing. Unfortunately, a series of recurring injuries disrupted her career. “I’ve had an injury nearly every single year,” she described in a 2003 interview, listing several major injuries she faced throughout her career.

In 2001, she suffered a significant foot injury that required surgery, sidelining her for extensive periods. Although she returned in 2002, her comeback was short-lived due to a thigh injury that was soon followed by a severe back injury, which ultimately led to her retirement.

The unexpected end to her tennis career came as a shock to Kournikova, who had dreamed of a long journey in the sport since she was five. She later shared that the condition of her back was so severe that even simple tasks were painful, forcing her to stop competing entirely.

Anna Kournikova’s Peaceful Life with Enrique Iglesias

Post-retirement, Kournikova has prioritized family life and limited her public appearances. She briefly attempted a career in reality TV but left after one season due to contestant complaints regarding her coaching style. Since then, she has maintained a low profile, with occasional exhibition matches.

In 2017, Kournikova and Iglesias secretly welcomed twins, reflecting their preference for privacy. Their social life centers around family, with close friends, and Iglesias expressed joy in fatherhood following the birth of their twins. Kournikova later had a daughter in January 2020, further enriching their family life.

While she occasionally shares glimpses of her family on social media, Kournikova’s focus has primarily been on raising her children. Her infrequent posts generally highlight family moments, like celebrating Iglesias on Father’s Day.
