Books — whether they are mystery series, love stories, fantasy epics, or shocking nonfiction tales — have always served as major inspiration for TV shows, and 2023 is no different. The year in television promises new shows, limited series, and seasons based on best-selling novels.
A new season of “Bridgerton,” based on the series of best-selling romances, promises to light up TV screens very soon. There’s also a new season of “the Summer I Turned Pretty” coming this summer, based on “It’s Not Summer Without You.” There’s Starz’s upcoming adaptation of the nonfiction best seller “Three Women,” the Tom Holland-led miniseries “The Crowded Room,” this fall’s adaptation of “Lessons in Chemistry,” and Netflix’s epic adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize–winning “All the Light We Cannot See.” Plus the first five months of the year have given us a new season of “Shadow and Bone,” based on the Grishaverse novels, “Daisy Jones & the Six,” based on the BookTok-favorite novel, and “The Last Things He Told Me,” starring Jennifer Garner.
If you’re a completist and want to check out these books before or alongside the shows they’ve inspired, you’re in luck. Ahead, these are 17 shows based on books coming to TV and streaming in 2023.
