Two of Ireland’s national treasures, Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott, are gearing up for their upcoming film “All of Us Strangers.” The indie film, directed by queer British filmmaker Andrew Haigh, will see the pair of esteemed actors getting close after a chance encounter changes everything. If Haigh’s previous projects, including “Weekend” and “Lean on Pete” are anything to go by, it’s likely to be another LGBTQ+ film that needs to be on your watchlist.

Oscar nominee Mescal (“Aftersun,” “Normal People”) and Emmy nominee Scott (“Black Mirror,” “Fleabag”) are the dynamic duo in the lead roles, and they’re joined by Claire Foy (“The Crown”) and Jamie Bell (“Rocketman”). Keep reading for all the details we know so far about “All of Us Strangers,” including the plot and release date.

“All of Us Strangers” Cast

In the movie, Scott — who was catapulted to stardom by playing the role of Jim Moriarty in “Sherlock,” for which he won a BAFTA Award — takes on the lead role of Adam opposite Mescal’s Harry, his neighbor. Foy and Bell are also among the cast.

“All of Us Strangers” Plot

Per the film’s synopsis via Searchlight Pictures, “All of Us Strangers” tells the story of screenwriter Adam (Scott), who shares a chance encounter with his neighbor Harry (Mescal) “that punctures the rhythm of his everyday life.” Set in a tower block in London, the plot takes a supernatural turn: “As Adam and Harry get closer, Adam is pulled back to his childhood home where it appears his long-dead parents (Foy and Bell) are both living and look the same age as the day they died thirty years before.”

The film draws from Taichi Yamada’s novel of the same name, Variety reported in 2022.

“All of Us Strangers” Director

The movie is directed by film mogul Haigh, who is perhaps best known for the LGBTQ+ love story “Weekend” (2011), as well as indie movies “45 Years” (2015) and “Lean on Pete” (2017). He was also the executive producer and lead writer/director on HBO’s “Looking” (2014-16) and was the mind behind BBC and AMC’s “The North Water” (2021).

“All of Us Strangers” Release Date

The movie will be released on Dec. 22.
