In 2018, Amanda Bynes announced that she was celebrating her fourth sobriety anniversary. However, two months later, she relapsed. On March 19, 2023, she was placed on a 5150 involuntary hold after being found in a distressed state wandering around the downtown Los Angeles area in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to TMZ, Bynes had waved a car down and told the driver she was coming down from a psychotic episode before calling 911. The 72-hour hold can be extended if it is determined that she is a danger to herself or others.
Although Bynes has seemed healthy and happy in recent years, studying for a Bachelor’s degree at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and looking forward to the future, she has denied suffering from mental health issues. She stated that her behavior was drug-induced and that she was always back to normal when she got off the drugs.
