Angel Reese will emotionally return to Louisiana State University on May 2, as the Chicago Sky take on the Brazilian National Team in a preseason exhibition at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. This event marks Reese’s first appearance back on the LSU court following her remarkable college career that significantly contributed to LSU’s strength in women’s basketball.
“Returning to Baton Rouge, a community dear to my heart, will be incredible,” said Reese. “LSU was key in my preparation for the WNBA, and I’m eager to play in front of both Tigers and Sky supporters.”
A Grand Homecoming for Reese
Reese’s legacy at LSU is remarkable. She led the Tigers to a national championship in 2023, boasting averages of 23 points and 15.4 rebounds per game. During that season, she established records with 34 double-doubles, the highest in NCAA history, and earned the title of Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament. Additionally, she holds the second-most double-doubles in LSU history (61) and achieved the third-highest single-season scoring total (829 in 2023).
Kim Mulkey, head coach of LSU, expressed enthusiasm for Reese’s return: “Angel was pivotal in solidifying our program at LSU. Our fans will be thrilled to see her back. She had an outstanding rookie season, and we are excited to follow her journey in the WNBA.
Kamilla Cardoso Competes Against Brazil for the First Time
This game is also a significant moment for Chicago Sky center Kamilla Cardoso, as she faces her national team for the first time. Cardoso played for Brazil in the 2024 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament, averaging 15.3 points and 11 rebounds per game. She also contributed to Brazil winning gold medals at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup and the 2022 South American Women’s Championship.
“I am thrilled to compete against my previous Brazilian national team,” Cardoso stated. “Brazil has been crucial in my life and has greatly influenced who I have become. This match is a special chance to reconnect with my roots and play in front of former friends and teammates.”
Fans can look forward to an exhilarating atmosphere as Baton Rouge hosts two basketball icons for a game filled with nostalgia, pride, and fierce rivalry.
