Beyonce has authorized Kamala Harris, the U.S. Vice President and Democratic nominee for the upcoming presidential election, to utilize her popular song ‘Freedom’ at her campaign rallies.
The track ‘Freedom’ is a powerful anthem featured in Beyonce’s 2016 album ‘Lemonade’.
A source close to Harris revealed to CNN that approval was granted by Beyonce’s team for the use of the song during her presidential campaign.
Notably, Harris already played the track at her campaign headquarters during her recent official visit.
CNN reports that Beyonce, who is known for strict music clearance policies, promptly agreed to allow Harris to use ‘Freedom’ after the campaign sought permission on Monday.
Although Beyonce has not officially endorsed Harris following President Joe Biden opting out of a second term, the approval to use ‘Freedom’ suggests the music icon’s backing of the vice president’s campaign.
Track Record of Democratic Support
Beyonce has a track record of supporting Democratic candidates, having performed the U.S. national anthem at President Barack Obama‘s inauguration in 2013.
In 2016, Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z headlined a pre-election concert for Bill Clinton in Cleveland, Ohio, and in 2020, she endorsed the Biden-Harris ticket, urging her Instagram followers to vote.
