After enduring almost ten years of litigation and public attention, Brad Pitt is now addressing the conclusion of his marriage to Angelina Jolie. In a conversation with GQ, the 61-year-old star shared a surprisingly calm perspective on the long-awaited divorce outcome.
“No, I don’t consider it to be a significant event,” Pitt stated when asked if he felt relieved about the legal resolution of their separation. “It’s just a matter of something being finalized. Legally.”
His remarks may catch many off guard, considering the public profile of their relationship and the often tumultuous legal journey. Jolie, 49, initiated divorce proceedings in September 2016, setting off what would evolve into one of Hollywood’s most intricate and emotionally charged separations.
Jolie’s focus on recovery and family
Jolie’s legal representatives have described a starkly different emotional landscape. Following the finalization of the divorce settlement in late 2024, her attorney highlighted the emotional impact it had taken.
“Over eight years ago, Angelina decided to divorce Mr. Pitt,” the statement noted. “She and the children departed from all shared properties, concentrating on achieving tranquility and healing for their family.”
Jolie reportedly relinquished her claim to spousal support within the agreement, underscoring that her children’s well-being has always been her priority. They share six children: Maddox (23), Pax (21), Zahara (20), Shiloh (19), and twins Knox and Vivienne (16).
A fractured family dynamic
Despite the conclusion of legal matters, Pitt’s connection with his children appears strained and distanced. Reports indicate that none of the children are currently in contact with their father. Some have even taken steps to remove his last name—most notably, his biological daughter Shiloh.
A source revealed to People last year that Pitt felt deeply pained by this growing divide. “He adores his children and misses them. It’s really heartbreaking.” An earlier report had even recalled a Father’s Day message from Pax labeling his father a “world-class jerk” and criticizing his actions during a 2016 incident.
For Pitt, while the legal divorce might be resolved, the emotional implications are just beginning.
