BUZZ: Billy Porter says single life is ‘bittersweet’ following Adam Smith divorce

And while Porter is still getting adjusted to life sans partner, the actor admitted that it’s not all been smooth sailing.

“The whole world knows I’m getting a divorce,” he told the Evening Standard.

“Y’all want to talk about my divorce and Ricky Martin’s at the same time?” he quipped. “We made it as far as we could but we learn, we grow and we live.”

At the time of the interview, Porter found himself in London for “a respite from some other s–t” — but admitted that the trip was “bittersweet” as he proposed to Smith there.

“I’m looking forward to the next… adventure,” he told the outlet. “She’s back on the market, looking for an English huzzzband. And you have to spell it just like that: ‘Huzzzband.’”

The actor, who recently revealed that he has to sell his house as a result of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, added that he will “always love” his ex-husband.

The former couple met at a dinner party in 2009 and dated for about a year before going their separate ways.

When reflecting on the early days of their romance, Porter told People in 2017 that they were “enamored” with one another but things quickly “imploded” as they started to get more serious.

However, they rekindled five years later and eventually said “I do” in January 2017 — just two weeks after Porter popped the question.

After the wedding, Porter revealed why marriage was so important to the pair, who both “grew up in households where who we are is labeled an ‘abomination.’”

In the years since their wedding, Smith has accompanied the actor on various red carpets.

While the former couple doesn’t have any children, they do share a cockapoo named Lola. This was Porter’s first marriage and Smith’s second.

Elsewhere in the interview, Porter said overcoming queerness was perceived as a “liability” early on in his career.

“I won an Emmy,” he told the outlet. “I’m a fashion icon. Now they need me. Winners write their history, because I’m not supposed to be here looking like this.”
