Talk about an odd twist of branding synergy.
At the same time Jonah Hill has been accused by an ex-girlfriend of controlling, manipulative behavior, his streetwear brand is selling an “emotional baggage tote” that reads, “Complete Unrelenting Control.”
The hip bag goes for $30, and the brand’s tagline, “Complete Unrelenting Control,” also appears on shirts, hats and “foot hugger” socks.
Hill – who left Instagram in 2022 – launched the apparel brand Meaningful Existence last month as an alter-ego called Prophet Ezekiel Profit.
The apparel line – which features Hill in disguise as the Profit character – takes a satirical slant on lifestyle and wellness influencers, and offers products including “Smells Like Wealth” candles and “Infinite Hug” weighted blankets.
Hill, 39, launched the line by attending a Lakers game as the cultish character Profit, with “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Lisa Rinna by his side, also in the Meaningful Existence gear.
The star jokingly said of the line in an interview with Complex as the Profit character: “[The] main slogan of Meaningful Existence is, ‘The more you pay, the happier you get.’ For starters, you can attain Meaning by buying. I believe that accumulating material possessions is the key to achieving true happiness.”
The ironic brand seriously donates three percent of sales to support nonprofit therapy resources and mental health services, and has a partnership with BetterHelp, an online platform.
As previously reported, Hill’s ex Sarah Brady unleashed a string of Instagram Stories posts earlier this week, including screenshots of alleged text messages between the two.
The surfer claimed the “Wolf of Wall Street” star would “gaslight” and “manipulate” her into removing photos of herself surfing in a swimsuit during their relationship. She even included one alleged message in which Hill asked her to remove photos of her “ass in a thong.”
Brady claimed she complied, but Hill allegedly told her it was a “good start,” but she didn’t “seem to get” his point.
Page Six has been unable to confirm the validity of Brady’s posts, and Hill’s reps have not yet commented.
Brady, a law student in Hawaii and avid surfer, dated Hill from August 2021 till early 2022.
She said via social media that she released the posts because, “keeping it to [herself] was causing more damage to [her] mental health than sharing it could ever do.”
But she added that Hill’s behavior doesn’t mean he’s a “terrible person.”
Hill – who recently welcomed a baby with fiancée Olivia Millar in June – has publicly said he suffers from anxiety attacks “exacerbated by media appearances and public-facing events” and has stepped away from promoting his film projects as a result.
He last walked a red carpet for the 2021 premiere of his Netflix film “Don’t Look Up.”
At the time, he attended with Brady in matching suits.
