BUZZ: Unrecognizable Daniel Day-Lewis seen using crutches in rare outing

Retired Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis appears to have suffered an injury during his time away from the spotlight.

The “Gangs of New York” star, 66, was spotted walking around Manhattan on Monday with the assistance of crutches.

It is unclear what caused Day-Lewis to become hurt. His reps did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.

Despite the acclaimed actor’s current disability, he appeared to be in decent shape and in good spirits, as he flashed a smile at one point.

In some of the paparazzi images, Day-Lewis’ tattooed arms were exposed as he latched onto his walking aids for support.

The “Lincoln” star was seen wearing a black T-shirt with a logo for Boston’s North Bennet Street School imprinted on the front, a pair of bright blue sweatpants, a backpack, black glasses and a green Howler Brothers baseball cap.

His gray hair reached his shoulders, a far cry from the more sophisticated look that he used to sport on red carpets.

However, this is not the first time Day-Lewis has been seen with a starkly different appearance.

He debuted his “unrecognizable” makeover in May, nearly six years after he quit acting.

In 2017, the British actor announced that “Phantom Thread” would be his last film.

Although a reason for the retirement was not given, his spokeswoman, Leslee Dart, said in part at the time that her client was “immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years.”

However, less than a year later, Page Six exclusively learned that Day-Lewis was not prepared to walk away from Hollywood altogether just yet.

Sources told us at the time that the “A Room with a View” actor had been meeting with studio execs about producing a future project.

It is unclear whether any of those works will ever see the light of day. According to Day-Lewis’ IMDb, he has not involved in any TV shows or films since 2018.
