Carmelo Anthony has shared plans to collaborate with Kim Kardashian on a charitable initiative focused on empowering girls today, working alongside the Kering Foundation.
Many NBA players are recognized for their charitable actions, often influenced by their own past challenges. Joining legends such as LeBron James and Michael Jordan, Anthony adds his name to this commendable movement.
“When we support women, they, in turn, support the world,” stated Carmelo during the announcement. He expressed his pride in co-hosting this year’s @keringfoundation Caring for Women event #STAYME7O.
This initiative is likely to take the form of a charity dinner featuring numerous stars from Hollywood and popular culture, including Kardashian, Salma Hayek, Naomi Watts, and Matthew McConaughey.
This will mark the third annual dinner organized by the Kering Foundation, which seeks to provide financial and physical assistance to women globally in combating gender-based violence, especially in light of recent events.
Funds raised from this event will benefit organizations like Girl Effect, It’s On Us, and the National Network to End Domestic Violence, representing the latest efforts from Anthony, a 10-time NBA All-Star and three-time Olympic gold medalist.
At the age of 40, he previously initiated the Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center in 2006 and contributed $1.5 million to the Living Classrooms Foundation to enhance job training programs for 35,000 individuals.
Gender-based violence: The statistics
Recent statistics reveal alarmingly high instances of violence against women in the U.S. and worldwide. The CDC and the National Institute of Violence estimate that nearly 25% of women face domestic violence during adulthood.
Furthermore, 15%-20% of women in the U.S. indicate they have experienced rape, with gang rapes accounting for about 21% of those cases. In 2011, nearly 30 women per 100,000 reported being sexually assaulted in the U.S.
