Tragedy strikes the film world as Chad McQueen, known for his role as Dutch in the “Karate Kid” series, has passed away at 63. Reports from his attorney, Arthur Barens, confirm he died from organ failure at his ranch in Palm Desert, California.
A serious injury a few years prior led to progressive organ failure, significantly impacting his health and contributing to his untimely demise. At the moment of his passing, McQueen was surrounded by his family, including his partner and lawyer, who remembered him fondly as “a unique man.”
Chad was the son of legendary actor Steve McQueen and is best known for his portrayal of Dutch in the original 1984 “Karate Kid,” which he revisited in its 1986 sequel. He also starred in the 1993 action film “Firepower.”
Clarifying His Absence
Contrary to some speculation, Chad did not reprise his role in the final season of “Cobra Kai,” as confirmed by his lawyer. Beyond acting, McQueen was also a successful professional racer, taking part in events like the Baja 1000 and Motocross. At just 12 years old, he claimed victory at the World Mini Grand Prix.
Chad’s absence from acting stems from his retirement in 2001, after which he focused on racing, making it difficult for him to partake in new film projects.
Although McQueen was unable to return, the creative team behind “Cobra Kai” — Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg — reached out to him about appearing in season 2, but ultimately, it didn’t come to fruition.
