Cher has recently shared a disturbing encounter from her youth involving Phil Spector, a renowned music producer and convicted murderer. The incident took place when she was just 15, while he was in his 20s, and involved Spector making a request for intimacy.
In her memoir titled Cher: Part One, The Memoir: Part One of a Two-Part Memoir, the iconic singer, now 78, disclosed how she was introduced to Spector through her former boyfriend, Antonino Lo Tempio. Cher expressed discomfort over Spector’s gaze, which she felt examined her uncomfortably.
Cher noted, “Although he had a powerful presence, his unsettling stare made me uncomfortable.” Despite the tension during their interactions, she maintained professionalism and continued her career without major conflicts.
Challenging Interactions
Cher recounted a moment when Spector asked her to sleep with him in French, taken aback when she responded fluently. “‘Voulez-vous coucher avec moi?'” he inquired with a smile, to which Cher cleverly replied, “Oui, pour l’argent,” humorously demanding payment for intimacy.
She recalled the shock on Spector’s face and how he “almost fell off his chair.” However, their relationship was not without more serious challenges. Cher confronted him when he unlawfully used her voice in a European single, leading to a tense encounter where he brandished a gun in an intimidating manner. Despite this, Cher stood her ground.
Spector passed away in 2021 at 84 while incarcerated, serving a lengthy sentence for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson.
