Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently residing in the same facility as Luigi Mangione, the individual charged with murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a startling attack in New York City on December 4.
Both Combs and Mangione are held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, NY, a federal prison known for its challenging living conditions, overcrowding, and a reputation for violence, poor food quality, and restricted inmate rights.
Background on Luigi Mangione
Luigi Mangione, aged 26 and a graduate from an Ivy League university, was brought from Pennsylvania to New York on Thursday. He faces first-degree murder charges in New York, along with federal allegations of murder and stalking.
Officials allege that Mangione‘s violent act during the day resulted in the death of Brian Thompson, creating a stir in New York City’s corporate scene.
Although Mangione is generating significant media interest, it is still unknown if he will come into contact with Combs, as inmates are usually segregated based on their security levels and legal situations.
Nonetheless, both will be present at hearings in the same federal court in Manhattan, as that is why they are both held at MDC, the nearest federal jail to the courthouse.
Current status of Combs
Combs has been detained at MDC since his arrest on September 16, facing accusations of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transporting individuals for prostitution. These allegations arise from a federal probe into his notorious “Freak-Off” gatherings, claimed by authorities to be linked to decades of sexual offenses.
Combs has denied all allegations and has attempted to secure bail multiple times, all of which were rejected. The court has maintained his detention, considering him a possible flight risk and worrying about potential tampering with witnesses. Consequently, Combs remains in MDC, waiting for his trial slated for May 5, 2025.
