Ed Sheeran, famous for his popular songs and poignant lyrics, recently narrated a funny yet dramatic experience from a 10-day boat trip he embarked on with music producer Benny Blanco. This journey, motivated by Blanco’s fear of flying, took them from the US to the UK while collaborating on Sheeran’s successful album, Divide, released in 2017.
In a TikTok video that follows the “Like a Prayer” storytelling trend, Sheeran, 33, shared the ups and downs of this cruise, which pushed him out of his comfort zone. “I was stuck on a boat for ten days,” Sheeran lamented, indicating that the experience was far from enjoyable for him.
A Surprising Revelation
The journey began without a hitch, but it turned odd when an announcement revealed they were crossing over the location where the Titanic sank. “We’re doing WHAT??” Sheeran recalled, as passengers rushed to take pictures at the side of the boat.
This led to a playful moment between Sheeran and Blanco, 36, who decided to watch the movie Titanic on board. “Benny didn’t let go of me the entire time,” Sheeran joked, adding, “Was this his plan all along? Would he paint me like one of his French girls?”
Sheeran also shared their amusing thoughts about fitting on a wooden door to survive the cold waters, joking that a significant part of Divide was crafted while he feared becoming a frozen dessert.
Benny’s Aviation Anxiety
Blanco’s phobia of flying is widely known. He even reminisced about the boat journey in a 2022 Instagram post where he celebrated Divide’s success, calling it life-changing.
The twist? Just a month after the adventure, Blanco flew on a plane. “Was it all for nothing?” Sheeran humorously questioned, concluding his ridiculous story.
Blanco has candidly discussed his flight phobia, linking it to several distressing flight experiences. Despite his aversion to flying, he humorously remarked that being on a boat is no luxury either, “It’s just you and older folks,” he quipped during a 2023 podcast.
Sheeran’s narrative not only highlights Blanco’s eccentricities but also provides fans with an inside look at the friendship and creativity that contributed to Divide, which stands as one of the decade’s best-selling albums.
