The renowned supermodel, Elle Macpherson, reveals her battle with breast cancer and how she defied the odds by rejecting chemotherapy, a treatment strongly advised by 32 doctors. Despite this recommendation, she opted for a different healing approach and is now in remission, attributing her success to a holistic method.
Her upcoming memoir, Elle: Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself, delves into her experience from diagnosis to recovery. Following a lumpectomy, she was diagnosed with HER2-positive estrogen receptor intraductal carcinoma, a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer.
While medical professionals recommended a mastectomy, radiation, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy, Macpherson opted for an unconventional route. She shared in an interview with Women’s Weekly, “It was a shock, it was unexpected, it was confusing. But it gave me an opportunity to dig deep and find a solution that worked for me.”
Details about Macpherson’s journey and her decision to forgo chemotherapy can be found in her memoir, scheduled to be released soon.
Elle’s Unique Approach to Healing
Instead of opting for traditional cancer treatments, Elle chose a more intuitive and holistic path to recovery. This unconventional decision was met with concern from her family and medical professionals.
“Saying no to standard medical solutions was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. But saying no to my own inner sense would have been even harder,” shared Elle Macpherson, aged 60.
Elle rented a house in Phoenix, Arizona, where she dedicated herself entirely to her healing journey. Her approach integrated emotional and physical well-being, which she credits for her remission.
Despite her progress, not everyone is on board with Elle’s methods. Dr. Martin Scurr, a retired physician from the UK, expressed reservations about her unconventional approach. He cautioned against hailing Elle as a pioneer in cancer treatment, emphasizing that her story is still unfolding.
Unwavering Family Support
Elle’s sons, Flynn (26) and Cy (21), reacted differently to her decision. While Cy was apprehensive about chemotherapy, viewing it as “a kiss of death,” Flynn, though uneasy, stood by his mother throughout. Elle appreciated Flynn’s unconditional support despite his personal reservations.
Currently in “clinical remission,” Elle Macpherson’s battle with cancer has been anything but traditional. She remains steadfast in her belief of following her instincts over conventional medical advice, leaving many to ponder if her journey towards recovery has truly concluded or if more challenges lie ahead.
