Dane revealed that symptoms of ALS began around 18 months ago, with initial signs including weakness in his right hand.

After months of consultations, he received a confirmed diagnosis in April 2025. The condition has since escalated swiftly, resulting in the total loss of movement in his right arm.

Dane voiced worries about his condition worsening, asserting, “I don’t think this is the conclusion of the story.”

A distressing experience

During a touching segment of the interview, Dane shared a recent snorkeling experience where he realized he could no longer swim.

While trying to get back to the boat, he found himself unable to move, leading his daughter to come to his rescue. He recalled, “I was too weak to swim back to the boat. My daughter had to pull me to safety.”

Even with the hurdles posed by ALS, Dane remains dedicated to his family and career. His wife, Rebecca Gayheart, who had initiated divorce proceedings in 2018, has since withdrawn the request, and the pair continue to co-parent their two daughters, Billie and Georgia.

Dane expressed immense appreciation for Gayheart‘s steadfast support, calling her his “greatest advocate.”

On the professional front, Dane is preparing to return to Euphoria for its third season, showcasing his resolve to stay active in his work despite the disease’s advancement. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a sense of normal life and focus during these trying times.
