As reported by Concha Calleja on Fiesta, local officials informed the couple about several criminal incidents in November.
The reported crimes include eight incidents, such as a kidnapping at a nearby residence and a burnt car containing a body, alongside various violent robberies.
In light of these events, Harry and Meghan have enhanced their security protocols. Funded privately by Harry, their security team has recommended that they limit public outings and approach any departures from home with caution.
Activities like Meghan‘s visits to local farmers’ markets now require a full security contingent and a trained dog for protection.
Concerns of Possible Targeting
Authorities in Montecito are looking into whether Harry and Meghan may be potential targets for local crime rings.
According to Calleja, “It’s uncertain whether these crimes are directly aimed at them, but the worry is palpable.”
The residents in the vicinity are also increasing their security measures, as both occupied and unoccupied homes have been impacted.
This alarming situation has led to speculation about the Duke and Duchess possibly considering a return to the UK. Such a decision would indicate a major change in their goal of living independently in California. Nonetheless, the couple seems committed to stay and address the current challenges at home.
