Baseball enthusiasts finally have an explanation regarding why Ingrid Andress delivered a flawed rendition of the United States National Anthem during the MLB Home Run Derby.
Singer Ingrid Andress, a four-time Grammy nominee, garnered mixed reactions with her performance of the “Star-Spangled Banner” at the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Monday.
Andress has become known for fusing pop and R&B elements with traditional country music, creating a unique sound.
While her style may have made her a bold choice for singing the anthem, she has now confessed to being under the influence of alcohol when she performed, sharing a statement on Tuesday.
“I’m not going to lie to you all, I was intoxicated last night,” she posted on social media after her deeply off-key rendition on Monday night.
Ingrid Andress to Enter Rehab for Treatment
Looking at the bigger picture, Andress has decided to seek help by checking into rehab to address her alcohol use and its consequences.
“I am admitting myself to a facility today to seek the assistance I require. That performance was not a reflection of who I am. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and the country I deeply cherish for that rendition. I will update you on my rehab journey. I hear it’s quite enjoyable,” she concluded, signing off with, “xo, Ingrid.”
Her musical journey began at Berklee College, where she was a member of the a cappella group Pitch Slapped, competing on NBC’s The Sing-Off for two seasons.
This experience led to mentorship from the acclaimed songwriter Kara DioGuardi. Following graduation, she relocated to Nashville to pursue songwriting, penning hits for artists like Bebe Rexha, FLETCHER, and Dove Cameron, including the global hit “Boys” by Charli XCX.
Andress has also seen success as a solo artist, with her 2020 debut album, “Lady Like,” setting a record for the highest streaming debut album by a female country artist.
