In 2020, Herschel “Guy” Beahm, popularly known as Dr. Disrespect, vanished from Twitch, leaving his 4 million followers shocked. His sudden disappearance raised questions until now when the real reason emerged — it was more than just typical streamer disputes.
Dr. Disrespect’s ban followed his significant Twitch contract worth eight figures. Two months later, Twitch conducted a crackdown on streamers linked to harassment and misconduct. Although no accusations were made against Dr. Disrespect at the time, he expressed bewilderment about being dismissed without an explanation.
Subsequently, Dr. Disrespect made a comeback on YouTube, but the mystery of his Twitch ban lingered. Finally, a former Twitch employee disclosed in June 2024 that the ban revolved around Beahm’s alleged inappropriate communication with minors.
Dr. Disrespect’s Controversy
In the aftermath of his Twitch exit, Dr. Disrespect strove to reclaim his status but stumbled when a former Twitch employee, Cody Conners, revealed the reason behind his ban: inappropriate interactions with a minor on Twitch’s Whispers messaging app. Another Twitch ex-employee confirmed this, indicating Dr. Disrespect’s use of the app to arrange a meeting with an underage user at TwitchCon.
Despite denying any wrongdoing initially, Dr. Disrespect later admitted to engaging in unsuitable conversations with a minor in 2017. This realization led to his removal from Midnight Society, a studio he helped establish, due to their adherence to ethical standards.
