At 47, Van Der Beek has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer and is seeking financial support through a distinctive initiative for his followers.
In an Instagram story, he encouraged fans to purchase a football jersey from his beloved 1999 film “Varsity Blues,” which he plans to sign and deliver before Christmas.
A heartfelt plea for assistance
In promotional content, Van Der Beek showcased a replica jersey resembling the one worn by his character, Jonathan “Mox” Moxon, the backup quarterback.
He expressed his excitement in a post, saying, “Thrilled to mark the 25th anniversary of #VarsityBlues with a special edition #4 Moxon jersey—each personally autographed,” shared on November 22.
He added, “100% of my net proceeds will support families sharing the struggle of cancer’s financial toll (including myself),” accompanied by an emoji. He has openly shared his financial challenges stemming from his medical expenses, recently made public.
