Jennifer Garner, aged 52, has opened up about the tragic loss of a friend in the recent Palisades fire that affected Los Angeles. This devastating event led to the destruction of numerous homes and has left the local community in shock. In a heartfelt discussion with Chef José Andrés from World Central Kitchen, featured on MSNBC, Garner expressed her sorrow and her commitment to assist in the recovery efforts for those impacted.
During an emotional segment, Garner shared memories of her neighborhood that once thrived, now deeply affected by the disaster. “I did lose a friend. She didn’t get out in time,” Garner disclosed, her voice laden with sadness. “For our church, it’s been such a sensitive time, and I don’t feel it’s the right moment to elaborate further.”
I lost a friend, and it’s very tender
While standing on Fiske Street, with burned homes around her, Garner talked about a lively neighborhood where children used to play and families enjoyed holidays together. “My best friend’s house was just down the street. They had a gong in their yard,” she recounted. “So many kids would play outside, and at the end of the day, they would hit the gong to signal it was time to go home.”
A community in ruins
Garner stressed the profound sense of loss within the community, stating, “I can think of 100 families who have lost their homes.” She noted, “5,000 homes have been lost. It’s difficult to comprehend.”
Though her own house survived the fire, the star of “13 Going on 30” admitted to feeling a sense of guilt. “Walking through my home almost makes me feel guilty,” she said. “What can I do? How can I offer support?”
Garner’s farmhouse in Brentwood, built after her separation from Ben Affleck in 2018, continues to be a refuge for her family. She also sheltered Affleck, who had to temporarily leave his home due to the wildfires. Fortunately, his residence was unharmed, allowing him to return safely on Thursday.
As the community starts to heal, Garner’s experience serves as a vital reminder of the human impact of the fire and the strength needed to rebuild.
