Kenny Chesney has consistently championed new artists, with one of his standout acts of kindness being towards Taylor Swift. A generous gesture from his past became a humorous anecdote when Chesney later playfully asked Swift for a refund of the severance he gave her after she was removed from his 2007 Flip Flop Summer Tour.
In a discussion on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Chesney shared that Swift was meant to be the tour’s opening act, but a deal with a beer sponsor conflicted with Swift’s youthful following, leading to her exit from the tour.
The Reason Taylor Swift was Dropped from the Tour
“I felt awful because she would miss out on earnings,” Chesney expressed. To compensate, he provided the emerging star with a substantial severance payment. “It was a significant sum… I wanted to make amends,” he added.

Reflecting on Swift’s incredible rise, Chesney shared with Fallon, “I recognized her dedication and talent as a songwriter. But no one could have foreseen how profoundly she would impact the world.”
Chesney’s Upcoming Las Vegas Residency
Chesney, now established as a country music icon, is preparing for a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, starting this May. “I’ve never had a residency in Vegas before, and this opportunity feels quite distinctive,” he remarked.
Set to launch over Memorial Day weekend, tickets will be available for purchase soon. Chesney promises an immersive show, describing the Sphere as a place that encourages “shared moments” between the audience and performer.
