Over a successful four-decade career in entertainment, Will Smith has achieved numerous awards such as an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and four Grammy Awards. Rising to fame with “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” in the 1990s, Smith has been a staple in Hollywood and was nominated for Best Actor at the 94th Academy Awards after the incident where he slapped comedian Chris Rock for a comment about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
Before the infamous incident, Smith appeared in the movie “Gemini Man“, which was a commercial disappointment grossing around $175 million against a $138 million budget. As a result, distributor Paramount suffered substantial losses and a lawsuit has now been filed regarding the film.
Smith Facing Lawsuit for “Gemini Man”
In Touch Weekly reported that Smith is among the defendants in a $1.7 million lawsuit filed by lawyer and sci-fi writer Kissinger Sabanda.
Sabanda claims that Smith, Skydance Productions, Gemini Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and others stole his concept for “Gemini Man”, derived from his 2011 book “The Return to Gibraltar“, shared initially with one of Smith’s stunt doubles and eventually sent to William Morris Endeavor, a top Hollywood talent agency.
Although “Gemini Man” was officially penned by screenwriter Darren Lemke, Sabanda and his lawyers argue that the film’s production was influenced by “The Return to Gibraltar”, ultimately leading to its realization due to a shift in marketing strategy.
Smith and his representatives have not responded to the lawsuit yet, which might impact the actor’s estimated $350 million net worth. Recently, Smith and Martin Lawrence reprised their roles in “Bad Boys: Ride or Die“, achieving success with over $400 million in earnings against a $100 million budget.
