A recent investigation by Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office (NCCPO) has concluded that the tragic death of Liam Payne resulted not from suicide but from the effects of drugs leading up to his fall from the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel on October 16.
The news of the One Direction singer’s demise shocked fans worldwide, prompting heartfelt tributes from his former bandmates and the mother of his child, as countless fans mourned his loss across the globe.
Questions arose concerning the circumstances of his fatal fall. Given his previous struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts, some speculated that he may have intentionally taken his life after sharing his feelings of isolation.
However, the NCCPO has categorized the incident as an unfortunate accident, stating that “alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant” impaired his ability to react during the fall.
The Coroner noted, “All injuries sustained by Payne were consistent with falling from a height,” emphasizing that self-harm or external physical altercations were not factors. “Payne did not brace himself during the fall, indicating he could have been in a state of semi-consciousness or unconsciousness,” the report elaborated.
Furthermore, the coroner dismissed the likelihood of him being consciously aware of his actions leading up to the fall due to his state at the time.
According to local authorities, attempts to revive the British star were unsuccessful upon their arrival, a finding reinforced by the coroner’s account of multiple traumatic injuries and hemorrhaging.
Eyewitnesses mentioned erratic behavior throughout the day, while staff noted instances of violence in his hotel room. Conversely, several individuals who encountered him that day described him as appearing calm and content.
Three individuals charged in connection with Payne’s death
Authorities in Argentina have charged three individuals regarding the incident, including a purported drug dealer, a hotel staff member, and a person who was close to the singer. The identities of these individuals have not been disclosed.
The hotel employee reportedly provided cocaine to Payne on at least two occasions, while the dealer is alleged to have done the same on two further instances. Additionally, the individual related to Payne faces charges of abandonment leading to death. All implicated parties are restricted from leaving Argentina.
