Lisa’s Controversial Met Gala Ensemble: A Bold Tribute or Misstep?

Blackpink's Lisa Sparks Controversy at 2025 Met Gala with Outfit Featuring Possible Image of Rosa Parks

The 2025 Met Gala, which took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, featured not only lavish displays but also notable controversies.

Among the most discussed was Lisa, a K-pop sensation and new cast member of “The White Lotus”, whose debut at the event in a Louis Vuitton outfit drew instant backlash online.

This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, celebrated the essence of dandy style in black culture. Lisa donned an ensemble that included a black embroidered blazer, branded tights, and an audacious sheer lace bodysuit that left little to the imagination.

The uproar did not merely center around the provocative design. A deeper look revealed that the lace on her undergarments displayed faces, one of which many identified as civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks. This detail was deemed inappropriate and offensive, particularly due to its placement.

Intense Backlash Directed at Lisa on Social Media

Social media erupted with criticism, especially as old footage reemerged showing Lisa and other Blackpink members allegedly using a racial slur during a performance.

To date, none of those involved have offered a public apology, igniting even more indignation.

The controversial graphic design was crafted by artist Henry Taylor for Louis Vuitton’s spring 2024 collection, overseen by Pharrell Williams.

As noted by a representative from the brand, these portraits feature “individuals who have been significant in the artist’s life.” However, it remains unverified whether any of these figures include Rosa Parks.

Despite the official explanation, the term “Rosa Parks underwear” quickly gained traction online, with many labeling the outfit as “the worst of the night.” Lisa has yet to address the situation publicly.

This controversy highlights how the intersection of art, fashion, and cultural sensitivity can become problematic, particularly at illustrious events like the Met Gala. While the design intended to pay tribute, for many, the message fell flat.
