This incident dates back to 1991, where she described her fans as predominantly ‘overweight individuals with acne who bother her’.

The clip resurfaced recently, causing a stir and garnering over 500,000 views online.

Madonna’s perspective on her fans

During an interview with the Washington Post, Madonna expressed, “I appreciate when people approach me in public and express admiration. It’s the overly zealous fans whose approach feels hostile.

“Their admiration goes beyond normalcy. It’s quite alarming… mainly from overweight individuals, the most socially secluded, like significantly overweight individuals or those with severe acne who stalk and annoy me.

“It’s unsettling as they not only intrude on my space but are visually displeasing as well.”

Following the uproar on social media, the music artist stood by her comments.

As reported by The Sun, she defended herself saying, “I don’t care if you find me selfish for declining a photo or your time or a hug.

“It’s not natural. It’s peculiar how people assume familiarity just from online interactions or enjoying the art someone creates.

“I have the right to refuse creepy behavior.”
