Magnus Ferrell’s Aspirations: Following in Dad’s Footsteps or Carving His Own Path?

What Will Ferrell's Oldest Son Magnus Hopes To Do For A Living

Magnus Ferrell, the eldest son of comedian Will Ferrell, is making his own mark, mirroring his father’s charisma and humor. In June 2024, he gained attention on TikTok by sharing prom photos featuring his dad dressed as a medieval lord, a humorous nod to his father’s playful nature. Magnus is also aspiring to work in entertainment, with a focus on music.

Currently enrolled at the University of Southern California, similar to his father, Magnus’s music career is flourishing. He gained experience by performing for events connected to Will. In December 2022, his band debuted at a Cancer for College benefit, where Will joined on stage playing cowbell, referencing a famous “Saturday Night Live” sketch. During a Parents’ Weekend visit in October 2023, Will also supported Magnus during a DJ set.

That same month, Magnus wowed the audience at Will’s “Best Night of Your Life 2” show, performing Radiohead’s “Creep” to a crowd of 6,000. Describing the moment as unforgettable, he also noted that he’s been working on his original music as he advances in his musical journey.

Magnus Ferrell released an EP

Despite taking acting classes, Magnus Ferrell aims to focus on music rather than follow in his father’s acting footsteps. He expressed a desire to sustain a living through music, having begun his musical journey at a young age. The COVID-19 pandemic sparked a significant evolution in his musical style.

Magnus has recently launched a six-track EP entitled “Hasn’t Even Started.” He actively engages with fans through social media, showcasing a video for his single “Don’t Talk To Me Like That” in April 2024. Prior to that, he celebrated his first single “Drinks On Me” at a release party in October 2023, benefiting from strong attendance due to fraternity connections. Balancing studies with music has its challenges, as he noted needing to juggle coursework with songwriting.

With a growing online presence and support from his father’s performances, Magnus is aware of the continuous journey ahead in his career, embracing the learning process as he is still only 19.
