Meghan Markle has opened up about her mixed feelings regarding her wealth, expressing a profound sense of guilt despite her considerable financial achievements linked to her marriage.
Her statements come as she and her husband Prince Harry work on expanding their business ventures while residing in a luxurious $14 million estate in Montecito, California.
However, the 43-year-old Duchess admitted she grapples with her affluence, especially when many others face financial hardships in today’s economy.
“There’s a lot of guilt associated with having so much,” Markle noted on her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder. “At the same time, there’s this mindset of scarcity.”
“It’s easy to fall into the thinking of ‘I’ll never have enough.'”
Scarcity mindset: Are Prince Harry and Meghan frugal?
Despite their wealth, Markle and Harry have faced scrutiny regarding their financial habits, with suggestions from insiders that they prefer relying on their affluent friends rather than spending their own money.
“It’s always other people’s money,” a source shared with PageSix.com in 2024, hinting that the couple is unwilling to utilize their own finances.
Nonetheless, Markle continues to advance her entrepreneurial pursuits, describing her journey with her lifestyle brand, As Ever, as “incredibly lonely” yet ultimately “liberating.”
She also mentioned that her collaboration with Netflix was a pivotal moment in her career, referring to the partnership as a “turning point” when she launched the brand’s first product line in April.
Markle launches her new podcast
Markle has recently made a return to podcasting following the conclusion of her $20 million deal with Spotify in 2023, which only produced 12 episodes of her Archetypes podcast.
Partnering with Lemonada Media, Markle is embarking on a new endeavor with Confessions of a Female Founder, designed to spotlight the journeys of accomplished women entrepreneurs.
“I’ve been engaging in genuine conversations with inspiring women who have realized their dreams,” Markle shared on Instagram. “They’ve transformed small ideas into thriving businesses.”
“They’re opening up, sharing their secrets (and mishaps), and allowing me to learn from their experiences as I develop my own brand, As Ever.”
The podcast began airing on April 8, with Markle voicing excitement for this new chapter, determined to ensure her financial trajectory remains upward.
While it remains to be seen how successful her latest projects will be, the Duchess is clearly focused on discovering both fulfillment and tranquility in her journey toward success.
