Meghan Markle has opted to disable comments on her recent Instagram post, a move that indicates her desire to manage the conversation surrounding her, according to a royal expert.
The 43-year-old celebrated her return to social media by posting a video of herself running on the beach and writing her name in the sand to welcome 2025, but promptly turned off comments.
It is uncertain whether her comment disablement was a precaution against possible trolling or a quick decision made after reflecting on previous online challenges.
The Duchess of Sussex advocates for the protection of youth from online harassment and continually seeks solutions to tackle cyberbullying, drawing from her own experiences following her departure from the British Royal Family.
However, Phil Dampier suggests that her actions reveal a controlling nature, indicating a need to manage how she is perceived.
“There’s no doubt that Harry and Meghan are control enthusiasts,” Dampier stated in an interview. “Meghan’s recent post seems to tease us a bit, too.
“She has intentionally disabled comments to prevent interaction. The content of the video, however, is quite vague. This decision implies they are quite sensitive to feedback.”
“This sensitivity has been a significant issue for them,” Dampier added. “If they could focus less on criticism and develop a thicker skin, they might find more productive pursuits instead. Unfortunately, this is how things stand.”

Dampier’s viewpoint is echoed by Hugo Vickers, who believes that the Sussexes are keenly aware of public perceptions and monitor all media coverage.
“They are active readers of everything written about them,” Vickers remarked. “They are aware of the mixed feedback they receive, consisting of both criticism and support.”
