Mikaela Shiffrin, recognized as the greatest skier ever, is set to co-own the Denver team joining the US National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in 2026. With this addition alongside Boston Legacy FC, the NWSL will expand to 16 teams, doubling its initial count from 2013.

Shiffrin, who boasts 101 World Cup victories, two Olympic golds, and eight World Championship golds, hails from Colorado. She expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I am thrilled to join the Denver NWSL team ownership and contribute to something important for my community.”

“The sports culture in Colorado is profound, and the rise of women’s sports is one of today’s most exciting developments,” Shiffrin noted. “Being involved in this and helping to introduce professional women’s soccer to Colorado is both a fantastic opportunity and a great privilege.”

A Significant Contribution

Team owner Rob Cohen remarked, “Mikaela’s dedication to excellence and her strong ties to Colorado make her an ideal addition to our ownership group. We are creating a purposeful club, and Mikaela’s insights and passion are priceless.”

As reported by L Football, Cohen and the Denver ownership group, which includes Shiffrin,are planning a 14,500-seat stadium scheduled to open in 2028 in Denver. In the meantime, a temporary 12,000-seat stadium will be established.
