Miley Cyrus is currently not overly worried about the legal action concerning copyright issues related to her popular song, “Flowers.” Instead, she seems to be more focused on her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.
The couple had a tumultuous relationship from 2009 to 2016, becoming engaged in October 2016 and marrying in December 2018.
Unfortunately, their marriage was short-lived, ending in divorce in 2020 due to “irreconcilable differences,” with their separation occurring in 2019.
Now, Cyrus may find her past relationship front and center again as she faces a copyright infringement claim regarding her 2023 song “Flowers.” The lawsuit, initiated by Tempo Music Investments, asserts that her song resembles Bruno Mars‘ “When I Was Your Man.”
At 31 years old, Cyrus is reportedly concerned that she may have to reveal that she wrote the song about Hemsworth, particularly following speculation regarding his supposed infidelity.
“Miley isn’t especially worried about the lawsuit itself,” sources have told DailyMail.com. “Everyone close to her understands that this song was written as part of her healing process after her relationship with Liam.
“The lyrics were a reflection on Bruno’s lyrics in ‘Your Man,’ which held significance for her because it was Liam’s song. She wanted him to know it was inspired by him.
“Originally, Miley intended the song to be a slow ballad, but it evolved into the upbeat version we hear now. For now, she’s just waiting to see how things unfold, hoping the lawsuit will be dismissed before anything further occurs.”
What’s the reason for Cyrus’s lawsuit?
The lawsuit, filed by Tempo Music Investments rather than Mars, claims that Cyrus’s “Flowers” shares several musical attributes, such as melody, harmonies, and chord progressions, with Mars’s song.
The investment company also seeks to prevent the distribution of the hit song, which could result in the removal of all digital and future physical copies, as well as prohibit her from performing it altogether.
