John Capodice, an accomplished character actor known for his impactful performances in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Seinfeld, has died at 83.
The announcement of his passing was made by New Jersey’s Pizzi Funeral Home, which commemorated him as a “loving husband, father, and grandfather.”
Although the exact cause of death has not been shared, many fans and colleagues are paying tribute, celebrating his warmth and talent.
A versatile career
Capodice was born on December 25, 1941, in Chicago and served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1964 to 1966. Following his military duty, he dedicated himself to acting, starting a career in the late 1970s that lasted over forty years.
Capodice became a well-known figure in film and television, recognized for his ability to infuse humor and depth into his characters. He gained attention in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective as a skeptical police officer, who confronted Jim Carrey‘s quirky pet detective.
In the realm of television, he is best remembered for his role as Vic, the laundromat owner in the classic Seinfeld episode “The Revenge,” where Kramer and Jerry engage in a humorous act of sabotage against him.
Capodice also featured in several significant films like Wall Street, The Doors, Honeymoon in Vegas, and Independence Day.
His television credentials were impressive, appearing in popular series such as General Hospital as Carmine Cerullo, the father of Lois, across six episodes from 1994 to 1996. His memorable appearances also included roles in Ryan’s Hope, CSI, Law & Order, Will & Grace, The West Wing, Melrose Place, Mad About You, Six Feet Under, and Murder, She Wrote.
Apart from his artistic contributions, Capodice was a devoted family man, survived by his wife Jane, two daughters Tessa De Pierro and Cassandra Hansen, and four grandchildren: David, Jake, Frankie, and Giuliana.
