Ella Emhoff Opens Up About Her Mental Health Struggles
Ella Emhoff has been open about her long-standing battle with mental health, a topic that gained media attention following Kamala Harris’ electoral loss. After images surfaced of her visibly upset post-election (presented above with Doug Emhoff), unfounded claims circulated suggesting she required hospitalization due to a so-called mental breakdown. In response, Ella took to Instagram, stating, “Not true. Also, f*** you if you’re spreading that,” as reported by the New York Post.
Ella expressed that her emotional response during Harris’ concession speech was entirely appropriate and expected. “There’s nothing wrong with expressing your feelings and shedding tears. Anyone who thinks otherwise may need to have a good cry themselves,” she furthered. She took this moment to emphasize the importance of discussing her mental health openly, rather than falling prey to the stigma surrounding it. “I’ve experienced challenges with my mental health throughout my life, and I’m proud to admit it,” she remarked.
The day before, Ella had already shared her feelings following Donald Trump’s victory, asserting that many shared her emotional response. “I recognize we’re all grappling with a wide range of emotions right now. That’s perfectly normal, and it would be unusual if we weren’t,” she articulated in a Substack post. Her mother, Kerstin Emhoff, also felt it was necessary to defend her daughter against the misinformation. “Ella is thriving and enjoying a lovely day with me! Having the courage to express your feelings is something we should all aspire to,” she tweeted.
