Richard Gere is regarded as a significant figure in the film industry. Currently residing in Madrid, the actor is set to attend the Goya Cinema Awards this weekend in Granada, where he is nominated and will receive the International Goya Award for his contributions to cinema.
Prior to receiving the prestigious award in Spain, Gere participated in a press conference, making remarks that particularly caught attention, notably those related to Donald Trump.
Richard Gere: “It’s time for people to stand up”
The actor emphasized that “the entire world is at risk” due to the numerous troubling occurrences happening globally. He criticized not only Trump but also associated figures like Elon Musk, describing the wealthy individuals around Trump as “immature and narcissistic, a dangerous combination.”
While Gere respects the democratic process that chose the current president, he considers that “America is experiencing a dark period” and urges individuals to “take action.” He stresses the need to “remain alert against the dangerous alliance of wealth and power,” warning that having wealthy individuals in charge poses a threat not just to America, but to the entire planet.
Reflecting on the current state of his homeland, the actor expressed that he and his wife find it deeply troubling and are still in a state of shock regarding the surpassing events.
