Rumer Willis shared how she felt about her mother Demi Moore’s relationship with Ashton Kutcher, revealing that they had a strong connection, yet there were challenges. Rumer struggled with the attention her mother devoted to Kutcher, fearing she was losing her mother’s support and presence.
During a joint appearance on “Red Table Talk,” Rumer admitted feeling angry, saying, “So much of that time, especially with Ashton, I was so angry because I felt like something that was mine had been taken away.” The couple’s strong desire to start a family heightened her feelings of displacement. Rumer reflected, “It was like, ‘Oh, well we’re not enough.’
Rumer’s feelings were compounded by the heartbreak of Moore’s miscarriage, which Demi discussed in an interview with The New York Times. Moore was six months pregnant and heartbreakingly, had planned for a fourth daughter. At the time, Rumer struggled to comprehend her mother’s grief, questioning why Demi wanted to have another child. Upon reflecting, Rumer acknowledged her insensitivity as a teenager and regretted not being more compassionate towards her mother’s pain.
Demi Moore Acknowledges Her Codependency on Ashton Kutcher
Demi Moore acknowledged that Rumer’s feelings were valid and revealed in the same “Red Table Talk” episode that she had become codependent on Ashton, bordering on addiction. Moore recognized that her behavior changed after meeting Kutcher, including relapsing into drinking after years of sobriety to fit in with him.
Both Rumer and her sister, Tallulah, noticed a drastic change in their mother, who went from being a dependable figure to someone who felt out of control in the relationship. “It was not the mom that we had grown up with,” Tallulah expressed.
Family ties were strained during this period, with the daughters feeling disconnected from Moore, even leading to a time when they stopped talking to her. Rumer felt disappointed that her mother did not stop drinking for her. Nevertheless, they have managed to rebuild their relationships and are now close again. Furthermore, despite the divorce, Kutcher has maintained a good relationship with Moore’s daughters, expressing his desire to remain part of their lives.
