Swift faced a wave of boos every time her image appeared on the Jumbotron at the Caesars Superdome, showcasing a puzzled expression in a popular viral clip as the Chiefs endured a frustrating 40-22 defeat in New Orleans. With this loss, Kansas City’s hopes for a three-peat were dashed, while Philadelphia celebrated, leaving player Saquon Barkley baffled by the negativity directed at Swift amid the fierce competition between the teams.
Barkley questions the backlash against Swift
In a recent discussion with Howard Stern, Barkley expressed his confusion over why Swift faced such hostility in New Orleans, with fans attempting to vilify her despite her support for Kelce and the Chiefs.
“She’s there supporting her significant other, and she’s bringing more attention to the game,” Barkley commented on Swift’s presence. “In football, we’re about expanding our audience globally, and her involvement helps with that. I don’t understand the backlash aimed at her.”
Barkley’s remarks followed the Eagles’ victory and came just days after Kelce noted it was a privilege to host President Donald Trump at the Superdome, being the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl. Last year, Swift endorsed Trump’s opponent, Kamala Harris; Trump had previously criticized Swift’s decision during the election and mocked her again after the Chiefs’ loss.
Turning 36 in October, Kelce plans to take a vacation with Swift to relax after the intense football season. It’s uncertain if Barkley’s defense of the “Cardigan” singer will be a topic of conversation for the couple as they discuss their future together.
