Selena Gomez postponed the announcement of her engagement to Benny Blanco for several months, reportedly because Justin Bieber, her ex from Wizards of Waverly Place, became a father.
Gomez revealed the engagement on December 11 through a series of photos on Instagram, which featured sweet moments with her fiancé and garnered over 21 million likes and 2.1 million shares.
It has been reported that the engagement could have been announced as early as August, but Gomez chose to wait until after some time to avoid any connections to Bieber’s recent fatherhood.
“They got engaged in August,” a source informed The Daily Mail. “Selena wanted to distance their engagement announcement from Bieber‘s news.
“They were aware that if they made the announcement immediately, it would draw comparisons between the two events.
“[Gomez] feared that people might think she got engaged to steal some attention from Justin’s child or that she was still affected by him emotionally.”
Throughout her journey, Gomez has faced claims of attempting to overshadow her previous relationship with Bieber, dating back to 2010-2018, which she has consistently denied.
Biebers aspire for a bigger family
On August 22, the Biebers celebrated the birth of their son, just before rumors surged about Justin’s association with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who faced serious legal issues recently.
Despite the surrounding drama, the Canadian singer and his wife are apparently focused on their future, indicating they might want to expand their family.
“I’m open to however many kids Hailey wants,” Bieber mentioned in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres and MTV in 2020. “I’d love to have a big family, but it’s completely up to her.”
