The prestigious ESPY Awards 2024 took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles with Serena Williams hosting the event and the Kansas City Chiefs alongside star Patrick Mahomes in attendance.
During the event, the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, along with comedian Quinta Brunson, openly criticized Chiefs’ football player Harrison Butker for comments he made in a speech at Benedictine College.
Butker’s speech, where he emphasized traditional masculinity and downplayed women’s achievements, drew sharp critique from the Williams sisters. They called Butker out for his remarks.
One striking moment was when Venus Williams urged everyone to appreciate women’s sports, stating that it is just as important. Serena then specifically addressed Butker, expressing that women do not need his validation.
Despite Butker’s presence at the ceremony, the cameras did not focus on his reaction to the Williams sisters’ statements, but earlier, he was seen posing alone on the red carpet without his wife.
